Coinbase is(N'T) Going Haywire
Reports have been coming out recently regarding erratic behavior on Coinbase users' accounts. Many users are claiming to have been charged multiple times for single transactions, having their Coinbase accounts mysteriously drained, having their linked bank accounts charge or even completely wiped out and even some reporting additional USD and cryptocurrency added to their Coinbase account. A representative for Coinbase stated that the issue started after a change occurred in the way credit cards classify their digital currency transactions. Certain banks. like Scotiabank, said they have been fielding complaints on this issue for about 2 weeks now (though reports have drastically increased in the last 24 hours), and are investigating the situation. At this time Coinbase has not responded to questions regarding how many users were affected, but a spokesperson did say that they will be reaching out to the affected parties to rectify the situation, and posting updates to social media as they are available.
EDIT: While initially thought to have been an engineering issue at Coinbase, VISA released a statement absolving Coinbase of any error and taking full ownership of the mishap. We are happy for Coinbase and know it is important to set the record straight, especially with issues of this type and magnitude.
